See Tour DatesRecord Store Day Releases Start Coming Together
Record Store Day, the annual celebration of all things vinyl, takes place on April 16th this year and already some big acts have announced their participation. The holiday’s official site has a list of activities currently planned, including a list of some of the records to be released and featured that day.
One of these releases is a tribute EP to Franz Ferdinand, which has some heavy hitters involved. To be released through the Domino imprint, the record takes songs from the band’s 2009 release Tonight. Involved in the covers are LCD Soundsystem, the Magnetic Fields, Debbie Harry, Stephin Merit, ESG, and Peaches.
Another big release just announced comes from the Strokes, whose new album Angles is set to be unleashed on March 22nd. The band will release a 7” single version of a single called “You’re So Right” to be released March 1st as the B-side to their “Under Cover of Darkness” 7” single. It’s also been announced that “You’re So Right” will come out on a special limited vinyl in support of Record Store Day on April 16th.
Other planned releases include:
-Rekords Rekords sampler featuring tracks from Queens Of The Stone Age, Alain Johannes, Mini Mansions and Desert Sessions.
-Deftones vinyl LP called Covers
-Mastodon’s Live At The Aragon
- A limited edition clear vinyl release of Panda Bear's forthcoming Tomboy LP, with an exclusive T-shirt
-A vinyl re-issue of Glassjaw’s Worship and Tribute
- A split 12" between producers Bibio and Clark, packaged in the "classic 'Warp' purple sleeve"
- A 7" from Blitzen Trapper, "Maybe Baby" b/w "I Don't Know What"
- A new 7" from Cults
- A split 7" between Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu "featuring one song by Xiu Xiu vocalist Jamie Stewart singing to Deerhoof's 'Almost Everyone, Almost Always' and one song featuring Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier singing to a Xiu Xiu song from Dear God, I Hate Myself"
- A split 7" between Jenny & Johnny and Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris
- A 12" release of Of Montreal's "The Past Is a Grotesque Animal", from 2007's Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?
- The Go! Team's "Apollo Throwdown" / "Voice Yr Choice" 12" single featuring remixes from Star Slinger and the Ruby Suns
- A special dub 10" of The Kills' "Satellite" featuring mixes by Mad Professor
- An EP of covers from Clinic
- Superchunk and Coliseum splitting a 7" of Misfits covers
