See Tour DatesWilliam Shatner Releasing Metal Album
Quirky actor/singer/legend William Shatner is following up his last album, with a metal record to be called Seeking Major Tom. Shatner’s last album, 2004’s Has been, was recorded with Ben Folds. Captain Kirk has put together some of his signature spoken-word vocals set to Black Sabbath's "Iron Man," Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," the Foo Fighters' "Learn To Fly" and, of course, borrowing from the title of the album, David Bowie's "Space Oddity."
LA Weekly gave details on the new album, saying there are 18 songs slated for the track listing -- all connected by a space and flying theme. The rumored guests are impressive and include: Peter Frampton, Mike Inez, Zakk Wylde, Steve Howe of Yes, Bootsy Collins, Ian Paice of Deep Purple and possibly Brian May of Queen. He has signed to Los Angeles-based Cleopatra Records to release the album. It’s set to be released some time later this year.
There are many good videos of Shatner singing. What to choose…
Here’s a video of Shatner talking with Zakk Wylde about recording the Black Sabbath classic, “Iron Man”.
Here’s a bit of classic Shatner covering the Beatles tune, “Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds.”
And, of course, here’s the iconic and obligatory “Rocketman”
