Top 8 Songs Covered by My Morning Jacket

Kentucky powerhouse My Morning Jacket is just finishing up a 5 night run in New York City where they played a full album from their catalog each night. During the performance of the band’s breakout hit Z, the band launched into an older cover that it had last played in 2006, Wham’s “Careless Whisper”, a classic tune to say the least. Never being a band that is satisfied with playing their own tunes, MMJ has added a slew of great covers to its roster of hits. Did I mention they usually jam them out for an extra 5-10 minutes each time? From funk, to soul, to just silly tunes, MMJ has used these old tunes to cement their place as one of the greatest live bands on the planet. The band is in the midst of writing the follow-up to their last album Evil Urges, which is said to see the light of day sometime in 2011. Here’s to hoping that the recording doesn’t keep them off the road. Below is a list of the band's most recent stops on their tour, plus a slew of solid cover songs: 10/29/2010 Louisville, KY - KFC Yum! Center With Very Special Guests, The Louisville Youth Orchestra and Wax Fang Charity: Louisville Youth Orchestra Continuing Education Scholarship 10/31/2010 New Orleans, LA - The Voodoo Experience Here’s that Wham cover: Erykah Badu’s “Tyrone” Jim doing the Chipmunk’s song: A little Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long” New Years '08 in NYC (I was there, it was awesome) doing “Celebrate” and “Get Down On It” The Band’s “It Makes No Difference” The Rainbow Connection And finally, Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home”
